Our efforts are organized around a set of core focus areas – from school kitchens and nutrition to sustainable energy, circular economy partnerships and education beyond the classroom. Each one addresses a concrete, identified need on Île Sainte Marie, and each is built to create lasting impact. We believe lasting change comes from local engagement and co-ownership. Every focus area is shaped in close collaboration with the communities we work with – their knowledge determines where our efforts make the biggest difference.

The idea of creating the non-profit organisation NORA-Madagascar originally arose from a visit to a school where the kitchen hut had collapsed and there were no funds to provide school meals. That is why school kitchens and school meals are one of our central and first projects!
